DESCRIPTION. Caleb looks the part of the typical jock, in terms of build - he's 5'11", and while he's not huge like a football lineman, he's obviously well-built and works out (which is unsurprising, given his extracurriculars). His hair is a little bit shorter than his neck, and perpetually looks like he could maybe use a little bit of a haircut. His skin isn't totally pale, but is still definitely pale enough to qualify as white; his eyes are a pale sort of grayish-blue. As for clothing, he's remarkable only in how plain his clothing is; invariably it's a t-shirt (without a logo, almost always) with a pair of jeans, and occasionally a long-sleeved shirt under his t-shirt. In cold weather, this changes to exactly the same thing with a hooded sweatshirt thrown over it.

PERSONALITY. Caleb takes most things seriously. This isn't to say that he doesn't *get* jokes, or doesn't understand that people are joking around - he just doesn't get why you'd want to do that, or what you're accomplishing. He's usually the first person to shoot someone a dirty look when they're disrupting class, and is one of the rare jock-type people who doesn't get involved in hazing or fucking with younger kids. He just doesn't see the point. He's not antisocial, but he's very focused on his schoolwork and athletics, and it's unusual to see him at a party or really just hanging out with anyone who isn't his younger sister. The one rare time people will see him actively messing with other people is if he is around his younger sister, where they have an uncanny habit for finishing each other's sentences.

HISTORY. Caleb is a military brat; his father, Michael Thomas Banacek, is a Marine who was stationed in Japan, acting as a business liasion. While in Japan, he caught a touch of the yellow fever, and married his current wife, Minori Banacek. Caleb grew up in a rather strict enviroment - the combination of living in Japan, with all its rituals and cultural norms, and growing up under a Marine made him rather serious and asocial, rather than tempted to act out.

Caleb did not associate well with most of the kids throughout elementary and middle school; after all, he was a white kid in Japan. While his sister Amelia did not have *quite* so much trouble with this, the result of this was a drive to do better than his peers in anything he possibly could, and an exceptionally close bond to his younger sister.

It was not until the middle school that Caleb's father would be reassigned, and it was to Minneapolis - conveniently enough, where St. Jude's is. While the new school and less restrictive enviroment (both in terms of schooling and the opportunities for him) have helped him be less incredibly uptight and tense, he is still not very social, and has not been in his two and a half years at St. Jude's. He doesn't go out of his way to avoid social contact, but at the same time, he's usually been giving off the impression that really, there's other stuff he'd rather be doing.

Beyond his schoolwork, sports, and whatnot, the only person he has really been seen associating with who doesn't have the last name "Banacek" is Nori. While she does bother the hell out of him (and he does seem to get annoyed about it), he does seem to actually initiate conversation with her, and inevitably when Nori wants a date for Homecoming or something, she gets Caleb to go with her.

FAMILY. Michael Tobias Banacek, 43, is Caleb's father and currently in the Marines. He is slightly less serious business than his son, but still doesn't take shit from anyone or anything. He's lightened up some with his kids, mostly due to realizing that neither of them really has an inclination to do stupid shit.

Minori Banacek, 40, is Caleb's mother, and while she's a bit frantic about grades and schoolwork and making sure neither of the kids fucks up their lives, she's still a relatively loving mother. While Michael is the one who usually is the voice of the parents, at least half of the time it's Minori's words he's speaking.

Amelia Linn Banacek, 16, is Caleb's younger sister. I'd rather not go into her too much because odds are decent she'll be apped as a pup too, but suffice it to say Caleb and Amelia are extremely close to each other - way closer than they are with any of their friends.

OTHER. Caleb and Amelia tend to do a somewhat obnoxious thing, mentioned earlier, where sometimes one of them will start a sentence, and the other one will end this. Generally, they know they're being annoying when they do this, and sometimes will do so in class. Also, Caleb is bilingual - he is fluent in both English and Japanese (enough to at least reasonably read kanji).
